Self Reflection.

I was nervous the moment my name was called upon. Clumsily I managed to drag myself to the front of the class. The sight of everybody staring at me, waiting for me to start, was just terrifying. I started speaking and I wanted to convey my speech exactly the way I wrote it down, and that made it hard to maintain composure and be aware of my postures. Halfway through my speech, I realized that i had my legs crossed, it was probably too late then. I was also easily distracted by every little movement inside and out of the classroom. And it felt kinda hard to convince and make my audience believe in what i was saying becasue I lacked persuasive elements in my speech. It was quite obvious everybody wanted me to get off 'stage' as a lot of yawnings and whisperings were sighted. haha! but all in all, I've gotta say there is A LOT of room for improvement  :)

Negative Portrayals of Women Through Media.

We are all exposed to media since young and this helps us shape our minds and mentality. However, it might not always be a good thing as this could lead to the continuing oppression of women. Women are frequently portrayed as objects for male satisfaction and assumed to be submissive to men. Many programs out there worsen the stereotype of incompetent females who rarely solve problems but are often the cause of it; and very commonly men are the solution providers. In conclusion, women need better representation in the media.

Survey

Gender:

1) Do you agree that TV programs (sitcoms, series, movies) promote and encourage women to be submissive to men? Why?

2) Do you agree that music videos these days (Flo Rida’s Elevator and Pitbull’s Hotel Room Service) portray women as objects whose primary goals should be finding male approval and keeping it? Why say so?

3) Do you agree that the advertising industry supports and reinforces these behaviours? Why?

4) Do you think women with high flying successful careers must sacrifice love as seen in most TV shows? Why?

5) Do you think issues affecting women (marital rape, domestic abuse, wage inequality) are overshadowed by sensational news (speeches by influential men, murder, ribbon cutting corporation events) If yes, do you think it is fair and acceptable?

Comments on Ezekiel and HIS CAR

I picked Ezekiel because I thought his little speech was quite interesting in its own way :) His entrance onto 'stage' and facial expression before he even started his speech was enough to catch everybody's attention and keep us wondering what he was gonna say. When Ezekiel started his speech, he had this unique way of expressing himself to tickle our funny bones and keep us focused. He spoke slowly word by word and emphasized the term 'THE CAR' probably like 5000 times in that short 5 minutes which was pretty entertaining. But I think he could have spoken louder with more confidence to highlight the content of his speech. :D
