Personal Branding - Mindy

For this assignment, I'd branded myself as an FBI (Funny but Inspirational). :)
I'm not gonna bore you with my speech draft so here is a summary of the aspects I'd covered during my presentation:

Appearance - Fair skin (despite having to walk under the sun 7 days a week) and silky hair!
Personality - Outspoken and not afraid to make a fool out of myself for a good laugh :D
Competencies - Able to play a song by hearing it once or twice (cun anot!!) and have a good voice projection which has its advantage of capturing audience's attention (at this point Bobby nodded which meant it was agreeable la kay)
Differentiation - pretty much a harmonious person so will do great with co-workers when I work (unless someone crosses the line real far)

Reflection:
When branding yourself, you should twist your weakness into something positive rather than highlighting it. In this case, I made that mistake.

For example, I said this
"I am not a book smart person, but I am good in music"

Which is not advisable as I had already highlighted your weakness at the beginning. Remember that this is to accentuate your brand, your positive side, not to say 'oh I am good in this but that one I damn teruk la.'

So what I should've said is:
"Many people are smart in their own ways. As for me, it is none other than music itself"

THANKS

Post-speech presentation

Phewww I'm finally done with my persuasive speech!! Happy as can be! :D
So I saw Eva taking notes for all speakers today so she reminded me to update a little in this blog.
These are what I've learnt:

-Hand gestures are good but should not be excessively done (I did that today and I realized I must've looked like I was conducting an orchestra)

- Emphasis of main topic should be placed in the the beginning, body and end of the speech.

- It's important to be involved/interested in the topic you are presenting because in case you panic and forget everything in an instance, you can continue even if you did not include the details in your written speech (to maintain flow)

- Pacing back and forth can be irritating to watch while standing in a stationary position is a painful sight

- Smiling somehow helps though not much. But it still helps.

Blackberry: The Catalyst to Conformity (2)

It is no doubt that if you have a Blackberry right now, you will continuously check Facebook and Twitter regardless of where you are.

This is quite true based on the observation I did on several Blackberry users who are at the age of 18-25 and also the survey conducted.

Do young BB users really fully utilize the functions in their phones? Hmm.I do question that. As far as I'm aware, many young users buy BB almost impulsively because of peer pressure and also for status symbol. All they mainly know about BB is their ever-free Blackberry Messenger and online applications.

I understand the fact that Blackberry Messenger is free and convenient, but that only applies to BB users. It's like MSN fused with SMS. What about the rest of their peers? This situation leads to youngsters having the desire to own a BB because:

1. they want to fit in and never be left out (be cool and all)

2. the pressure to conform (by peers)

3. it's actually affordable compare to iPhone or any other smartphones
