personal branding [cecilia]

last class of the presentation.(supposedly, but technically second last.)
i think.. i was doing fine..
but i spotted a little mistake of myself.. haha.. i did prayer! gosh
i never did that for so many previous presentation but this time i did.. what la~~=.=
so when i realized i was doing that, i quickly let go my hand.. pfft.. not a good thing
hahaha..
wont say that i am satisfied with my speech, because i still will stuck during presentation..
am not so nervous compared to last time..
but still..
the content wise IMO was quite bad..
perhaps the delivery of my speech..
and also the atmosphere i guess? haha
no more chance to polish it like we were in presentation class anymore..
but i would proudly say that, i am being slightly better in front of people..
well.. whack only is my motto during presentation..
never try never know..

and i like su wern's quote of the day... life's never fair.. it's either you want to live your life to the fullest of live with regrets.. SOMETHING like that lar.. shall ask her the full exact quote..
meaningful!

lastly, i want to say.. HAPPY study week! =D..

reflection on impromptu!

The Most Important Thing In My Life..

actually i am kinda lucky that i got this topic..
it's like i know what am i gonna say once i got this topic..
but, whether is the idea is creative or not, its for the lec and the classmates to decide..

heard from Michelle that AGAIN, my eye contact with the audiences was a bit off, i was too close to them i think..
but i tot of being closer with the audience, then i missed out that part..
summor was busy puking all the points that i managed to think of, so did not really notice about the mistakes i have made here and there..
towards the end of the speech, i realized that my legs movement..
haha.. cuz i saw miss Cheryl looked at my legs.. XD..
will try to control next time..
i think trying to walk around became a distraction? but standing still looks very stiff..
HOW?
oh i think the voice projection of mine was okay? loud enough i suppose! =D
then the hand gesture, trying not to move my hands so much already, i guess it is okkaay? =)
well, still ALOT mcore to improve! and hopefully i really can be better in the eye contact part... maybe sub consciously i am afraid to look the audiences in the eyes thats why... =S..

thats all! =D

pick this line up from now on people.. haha.. it motivates you alot.. =p

below is my speech.. =D

Every Cloud Has A Silver Lining

Good afternoon to Ms. Cheryl and my classmates, the topic for my interpretive speech today is ‘Every cloud has a silver lining’. This is an idiom which carries the meaning of - it is always possible to get something positive out of a situation, no matter how unpleasant, difficult or even painful it might seem. So, people always use this idiom to comfort others who are facing difficulties.

First I want to tell about how I got to know about this idiom. In this semester, I was very stressed when I was doing one of my assignments. I won’t deny that I did procrastinated, but it is also because I didn’t understand how did it supposed to be. And that was another major problem for me to do it. That time, I was very cranky that I almost gave up doing my assignment. Yet, I still chatted normally with friends. I was chatting with one of my classmates about the assignment then she actually said that, there is one idiom that suits me very well which is every cloud has a silver lining because I sounded very stressed out. At first I didn’t know what it means. But after I Googled about the meaning of it, I actually find it very true. Nothing is impossible and there is always a solution, it is just the matter of time to realize it, effort put in and the thoughts you have.

To me, this idiom is really suitable for everyone, because, no one will ever have smooth going life forever, it always have ups and downs no matter how good are you in planning your life. Therefore, ‘every cloud has a silver lining’ is basically an idiom that is always applicable to everyone. I’m a person that get upset very easily even over little things. For example, if I don’t know how to do my assignment I will feel very useless and “emo” for that particular day as if the world is going to end anytime soon. But then after all, it is just another deadline that I am trying to meet. Once I hand in my assignment, whatever stress will be taken over by relief and satisfaction. And I’ve learnt that; everything you do, you must give your best so that you won’t be regret. Isn’t that the silver lining that comes after the cloud?

I am sure that everyone here has their “emo” time right regardless what is it about. Try to think; whenever you are having a hard time, eventually it will go off and from there, you become tougher in facing that kind of situation, right? This is pretty much what it means by every cloud has a silver lining; time can wash away your pain, even though memories are still there, people move on as time goes by, the earth will not stop spinning because of you crying or yelling for help, so why spending so much time on torturing yourself but instead, you can save your time on that and could have done something better?

A very good example, when you go out and work, dealing with all kinds of people is normal, people always complain about the bad customer that always bring down your mood, but try looking from another perspective, without a bad customer that torture you, how would you learn to deal with another worse customer and also start appreciating good customer that you have? A person’s thoughts is very powerful, things can be done just based on the one thought you made. A simple decision can make a person success or fail. This is why; in my opinion ‘every cloud has a silver lining’ also trying to remind that, if a person never wanted to give up, and keep trying as people learn from mistakes, at the end of the day, things will be pretty sweet and worthwhile. Because, you don’t let your life down when life lets you down.

Again, this idiom also becomes an encouragement to people in my opinion. We tend to stuck at one dead end when we have problems, we don’t see any solution, but then, at the end of the day, we still have to face the problem and when we face it, then things might not be as tough as it seems. So always keep this idiom in mind, I think it will make us feel motivated to work better. Because, it works for me, ever since I knew about this idiom, I always have it in mind whereby no matter what bad things or challenges are there, I will have the faith that, I can make it and gain something in the end. I would like to share with you all about this idiom, start applying it in your daily life; things won’t seem that bad anymore! =D

Thank you.

self reflection - Cecilia!

great! i wrote about the self reflection just now and poooof! Disconnected.. =( have to type all over again..

ok shall not complain!=)
topic for persuasive speech was "English should be the official medium of teaching in Malaysia"
so, i know my hair became the major distraction until EVERYONE noticed it.. literally.. sigh..will pin them up next time.. though i know its ugly..=.=
uhm, i think i moved my hands a lot too.. will try to control that..
i think my voice projection was fine..
but the point given was not strong enough to persuade people.. maybe should try to emphasize more and play with tone of voice...but i really like the quote by Mr. Mahathir.. =)

besides that, i think i was very nervous also.. oh ya! eye contact was bad as i only focused on one side.. will improve on that.. =)

i think i did not improve much but hoping to do better in the next presentation.. night!

review speech?

so we have to review other people's speech here? ok i din know that.. =X

Kiru - very good speaker.. steady.. but in between he got stuck and din know what to say... maybe can work on that, try to hide the expression.. and bring cue cards in case forget.. wont really rely on it if you're confident enough.. =)

Sarene - abit too soft.. cant really hear her voice.. but roughly know that she was saying Chinese will be the international language in the future.. well.. i agree with this statement.. because many people are currently learning how to speak mandarin already.. and it is the first most widely spoken language globally.. well.. good topic.. try to be louder next time.. den you are good.. ehhe

Siew mun - too nervous! dont worry girl.. u have got a good topic.. seriously.. just be confident and speak out loud..

Su ann - nice speech.. like the sentence - everyone is beautiful... (hope i din remember wrongly).. voice projection was good.. posture and gesture were alright.. =) as usual, a good speaker..

Michelle - good la.. interesting speech.. loud, confident, great points.. good speaker! =).. dunno what to comment on cuz she was really good..

aaron - hmmmm.. nervous.. actually he can speaks very well but tend to be nervous in front of people.. hand always at the back.. wrong! =p.. but getting better after awhile.. just be confident..

the good and the bad?

ok so i think i am supposed to state the negative of English being the official medium of teaching in Malaysia and argue on them..

firstly, i think if English is the official teaching medium, Malaysian might forget about their mother tongue as they will be so "English educated". however, this is not true, this is because, Malaysia is famous with its multiracial citizens, we know many different languages, so if we can master English at the same time knowing our mother tongues, the country will be much more respected and admired by the others. as my point was that, schools should emphasize on the teaching of English, and not completely dominated by English. this is because the academic system globally is focusing on this language, for the future of the country and the children yet we still learn Malay which is compulsory, and some students from Chinese/Indian schools will get to master their mother tongue as well..

English as the official medium of teaching might make people feel that the national language will slowly loses its status/ replaced by English. again, i wasnt saying that English should dominate as the official language, Malay is still the national language which i will not deny or against that. hence, English changed as the official teaching medium is just to ensure that Malaysian will be able to converse in English at anytime, anywhere and at the same time, it could help in the development of the country, help the country in moving forward in the future..

learning English will make people forget about their roots.. because they will become more and more westernized aka losing their identity as Asian. well, learning English is an education needs.. as it is said to be the international language that is used globally.. in fact, the media is the ones that make the people loses their identity as Asian because the portrayals in movie, music and everything from the western countries.. it is not by learning English that make the Asian loses their identity. so learning English is just for the people to understand, to master one more language and not the reason that causes the losing of identity in Asian..

so after the explanation, i think it is clear that, the negative statements of English being the official medium of teaching in Malaysia are not supposed to be the problems for us to disagree with the emphasis of English in Malaysia education Policy..

“The love for the language should not surpass the love for one’s nation,” said Dr Mahathir, adding that speaking in one’s own language does not necessarily makes one’s nation well-respected and admired by others. (taken from malaysian mirror)

English Should be the Official Medium of Teaching in Malaysia.

Based on the survey I have sent out and the results shown that most of the people agreed that English should be the official medium of teaching in Malaysia. Some thinks that the emphasis of English is sufficient in schools level however, this statement is not right, this is because, in Chinese primary schools, most of the subjects were taught in Chinese language. Only science and mathematics are taught in dual language which they are Chinese and English. This can be seen from one of the Chinese primary schools, SJK(C) Taman Rashna, Klang, the standard 6 class’ timetables consisted of 14 periods of Chinese language in a week, 6 periods for Malay Language and only 5 periods for English. This truly shows that English classes are not sufficient for the students to understand the language thoroughly. In one of the Malay primary schools, SK , the timetable consisted of 10 periods of Malay classes where English consisted of 9 periods. so through here, we can see that, Malay primary school have more English periods than Chinese school due to the lesser subject taken.. however, if it compared to Malay classes, English is still lesser. So, it is clear that the education policy did not emphasize much on English..

If let say we keep Malay language as our official medium of language, it is only limited in our own country whereby English is international language that is used globally and ranked as the top 5 most widely spoken language. Therefore, knowing our national language is important, yet, knowing an international language that can bring the country forward and communicate with people around the world is more important.

I found out that, 1982, English medium school replaced by Malay medium school. Then in the year of 2003, the policy changed where English is used in teaching Science and Math. But in the year of 2009, there was an announcement about reverting the teaching of Science and Math to Malay due to the declination of grades in both the subjects. However, this doesn’t really make sense, because, the implementation of policy only lasted for few years, and the outcome would have to take longer time to be seen. Plus, if there’s not much emphasis in English, how is it possible for Malaysia to develop further when the locals couldn’t converse in even the simplest English with the advanced country?

Therefore, I support, and hopefully everyone agree that, English should be the Official Medium of Teaching in Malaysia for the children’s future, as well as the country’s development.

out of the class - my best moment =)

the day when all of us have to go out of the class and start giving speeches around..
it was very fun!
the first one was Michelle, she was the lucky number and really lucky that the place was staircase..
none of the outsider passed by..
she was loud, clear, and steady on her speech..
overall it was fine.. =)

second was yika... her story about cheating in high skul haha... funnay~
but there's a lesson behind it...
u can be a free rider at anytime u want, but at the end of the day.. u will get something u deserve.. =)
her story was so interesting that two passer by actually stopped and listen HOHO...

then it was jia xin on the stage.. haha..
i think the impromptu session make all the story so interesting!
jia xin shared something about... jungle trekking..
she was good, steady even she was on the stage... animated in a way...
it would be better if she was abit louder..

Chea talked about her high school confessing memory..
wow.. she was such a bravo.. even ms Cheryl was shocked after listening to that..
overall it was good but again, the place was open air so hardly actually listen to what she said...
however, we were standing quite close to her so that we could hear... try to work on her vocal projection den it would be great...

ivan's was about racing with the cousin in the early morning... haha.. crazy experience he had...
as usual he was loud... and did not do any mistakes i suppose...

lastly would be bobby!
i think he really enjoyed the out of the class thing because he did not seem nervous at all instead, he was very relaxed sharing about his high school memory about FORKing the ground.. haha...
super crazy idea but too bad.. they did not do it...
he was good, animated.. all the mistakes he had in class were all gone.. everyone seemed to be quite attracted to his story...
shall keep it up! =D

that's all i can recall miss.. =)
