Personal Branding Feedback [ Su Wern ]

It was the second last class for Presentation Skills. Accentuating the Personal Brand was the last and final speech we did for this class and for me, this assignment really allows us to know more about our own classmates, especially on stuffs that we never know about them.

Yes I do believe that everyone is unique because everyone is leading a different life. I remember there's a quote that sounds like this: "Everyone has something special in them. But not anyone can see their own beauty." For me, this assignment shouldn't be a problem to me. But one problem with me is that I always tend to over-complicated things. And being me, I tend to really think too much on things. But for me, I think this is the best speech I've given throughout the whole class. Well, at least I think so personally.

Because I really just throw my speech draft aside and spoke normally. At the moment I stepped in front of the class, and although I did have my cue cards with me at that time, I somehow feel that "nah, I am fine speaking as myself." I really have no idea how my speech turned out but the only thing I know is that when I spoke, I don't really feel nervous, and I don't really feel my mind being blanked out. I just speak my mind out, and yes, although I don't really know how it turned out.

It was just a risk I wanted to take and a challenge I wanted to give myself. I know this would be quite a big risk for me to take but after everything ended, I feel relieve as well as the satisfaction I can feel in me, was one type of feeling that I never felt before in any presentation I did previously in the same class. Like I mentioned in my speech, I just want to be responsible towards myself and avoid myself from regretting over things that I should do but did not do. And for me, I think I managed to accomplish that promise I've made towards myself through the way I decided to deliver my speech. Trust me, it was a total last minute decision.

At that moment, I only feel like "I'm talking about myself, right? No one should understand myself more than me myself." And poof!

Overall, I think everyone presented amazingly well :) In my opinion, everyone is special. Everyone who had the courage to stand up and expose a different self to everyone in the class is respectable and really, everyone deserves more than just a clap :)

Self-Reflection [ Su Wern ]

My topic was on Wikipedia: The Spread of Inaccurate Knowledge. I was against this argument and my speech's main objective was to persuade my target audience to use Wikipedia in a smart way instead of accusing it for spreading false information.

My target audience when I gave my speech was around 3 people. But I really appreciated them for listening to my speech :) Thanks! Anyhow, everything was going smooth for my speech. My first half of the speech was started off with according to the speech draft but the second half, I was merely doing spontaneous speaking because I realized it was kinda impossible for me to fit in everything in the next 2 minutes. So basically what I did was, I just focus on the major point of the topic. But personally, I think it went on alright.

Voice projection, I guess it was okay. But then again, it was in a small room, so of course everyone can hear me :) The part I need to improve will be my body language and my pronunciation. I tend to emphasize on certain words too much and it sounds weird. And I need to improve on my interaction with the audience. But then again, it's quite hard for my topic. This again, reminds me to chose a wiser topic next time :)

Personally, I am satisfied with my performance on that day. But it could be better :)

Reviews on Persuasive Speech M3 [Su Wern]

Oops, sorry this is a bit late. Here's my review for my classmates' persuasive speech presentation :)

  • Kiru - Kiru's speech was about e-learning. Overall, I think he did a pretty good job in conveying the content of his speech. The language he uses is easy to understand and straight to the point. As usual, Kiru manages to grab the audience's attention through his tone when he present the speech, as well as his emotions. Not many people can do that. When Kiru presented his speech, he seemed really immersed in his speech. His seriousness in presenting the content, in my opinion, is the main factor to allow him to be able to persuade his audience, which is the main goal of the speech. He has his nervous moments but he overcame it pretty well. He does not lose his way and he got back to track very fast. I think that's pretty amusing :) Way to go!
  • Sarene - Sarene's speech is about turning Mandarin into the future international language. Perhaps she was a bit nervous during she presented her speech, her tone of voice was a bit slow and it made the audience hard to follow or listen to what she said. However, it was a good attempt in trying to convey all the content in the short 5 minutes. I personally think that memorization of speech should be avoided, because it prevents you to speak in a better and smoother flow :) But it was a good attempt for Sarene to carry on with the speech although she got nervous in-between her presentation. Gambatte! :D
  • Chea - Chea's speech was about the effects of cartoons on children attitudes. Personally, I think she has a good introduction. Using the question intro, she managed to get the audience into mood and grabbed their attention. Her speech is personalized in a way that she relates the content with her own personal experience as well as with the audiences. I think that was a really good attempt because personalization always works well in grabbing the audiences' attention and Chea managed to do the trick :) Besides, it was another good attempt of her by presenting her research and the hard copy of articles because facts and findings are always solid and good in convincing people. Especially in persuasive speech, I think that she had did a great job :)
  • Su Ann - Su Ann was talking about relating eating disorders to media. Personally, I really like the way she speaks because her tone of voice is clear and convincing. Although she seems a bit reluctant before the speech, her whole personality once she stepped in front of the audience changed. She really looked confident when she spoke in front of the audience and that is one step closer in making the audience to listen to her. She has a strong persuasive statement at the end of her speech, which not only personalized her speech content but also making people to relate the content back to themselves which made her statement more believable.
These are the few speeches that got stuck in my mind :) For my speech, I personally think that I do not have enough time to present all the information I had. During my presentation, instead of using the cue cards, I presented by speech mostly on going with the flow. I think my speech should be more personalized but it was also because of the topic I've chosen that made to have limitations in doing so. Personally, I think I should organize my speech in a neater way the next time I give my speech :)

Persuasive Speech First Analysis [ Su Wern ]

Topic : Wikipedia: The Spread of Inaccurate Knowledge

All of us should know the existence of Wikipedia. To give a head start -a simple one- Wikipedia is basically a free online encyclopedia, which is produced voluntarily by people all over the world. It first made it's existence on the website in 2001, founded by Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger.

There had been a lot of debates on whether this free open-access website is giving out credible information, despite the fact that anyone can actually edit and reedit the articles in the website without any limitations. However, although this is a well-known fact by all internet users, Wikipedia still continue to grows in its importance and size. Not only that, this free online encyclopedia had been developed into multiple languages websites all over the world and it's still being used by everyone. Have you ever wonder why do people still use this website although they know that it can be edited by anyone?

I will be going against the topic. Basically, I will be supporting that Wikipedia is actually a credible source. Of course, I will be looking on the way this website actually works and provide data and research base on the opinions of the others. I will also find evidence to prove that the information on the website is actually credible and can be used in gaining or in expanding the knowledge without being mislead.
